Hip Pain

Hip pain in adults is very common and not always related to sinister or serious pathology. Often it can be as simple as a tendinitis or muscle pain referral, but it is worthwhile having your hip pain assessed by a health professional. Common causes of hip pain are:

  • Hip osteoarthritis
  • Femoral acetabular impingement (FAI)
  • Labral tear
  • Bursitis
  • Other arthritis such as Rheumatoid Arthritis

Sometimes hip pain can be referred from other parts of the body such as a pinched nerve in the low back or the pubic bone (osteitis pubis) commonly seen in athletes.

If you are experiencing hip pain, it is important that a trained health professional assesses your hip and low back.  Our Physiotherapists and Chiropractors are trained in the orthopaedic assessment of the hip and low back. They will assess your range of motion along with orthopaedic testing to work out a diagnosis for your low back pain. Sometimes you may also be referred for further imaging of your hip or low back by our allied health team, such as an MRI or Xray to rule out any underlying pathology or injury.

If you would like to discuss your hip complaint but not sure who to book in with, why not book our FREE health discussion with one of our allied health practitioners.
