Naturopathy

Naturopathy is about treating the whole person. Naturopaths treat the cause of illness, whilst healing associated symptoms, and detect early indicators of ill health. Naturopathy encourages the body’s innate healing power with the use of herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, mineral therapy, flower essences, as well as dietary and lifestyle changes.

Naturopathy focuses on treating acute, short-term ailments and chronic disease, and is appropriate for patients of all age groups. Conditions that are commonly seen in clinics range from nervous system conditions such as depression, anxiety, and stress to autoimmune conditions like celiac disease and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

Naturopathic medicine is outlined by 6 principles. Above all, it honours the body’s innate wisdom to heal and provides clients with the tools for lifelong wellness.

The six fundamental principles that underpin naturopathic practice are:

  1. First, Do No Harm
  2. The Healing Power of Nature
  3. Identify and Treat the Cause
  4. Doctor as Teacher
  5. Treat the Whole Person
  6. Prevention

An initial consultation requires 1-hour of time. During the consultation, the naturopath will discuss your personal and medical history, address your nutritional status, and discuss the functioning of body systems, such as the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), immune system and female reproductive system. Naturopaths may work alongside your GP and other health professionals to offer you the best possible care for the presenting complaint.

Subsequent consultations require 30-minutes of time. Follow-up appointments are important to ensure the treatment plan is working well and producing the desired effect. Any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan will also be made during this time. This may include; product changes, dosing adjustments, reviewing test results, or further dietary and lifestyle modifications.

30-minute acute consultations are also available for clients seeking relief from acute illness, such as; the common cold, urinary tract infections or acute stress. 30-minute iridology and flower essence consultations are also available.

You don’t have to have an existing illness to visit a naturopath. Naturopaths can help you improve your health by focusing on your diet and lifestyle – education is key to living a healthy life. This includes general check-ups to assess your health status which may uncover areas that require attention. These consultations may involve a range of tests including a zinc tally test, tongue and nail analysis, blood glucose test, and more.

At the end of the consultation, you may be prescribed herbal medicine or nutritional supplements, including flower essences or mineral therapy. You will also receive a personalised treatment plan entailing your treatment goals, product dosages and dietary and lifestyle advice. Encompassing all modalities into the treatment protocol will successfully achieve long-term positive change.
